They run into Ted Danson (9) and after Lucy leaves, Larry asks Ted why he hasn't been invited to his charity event and Ted admits he's picked Cheryl.

Larry hires a private investigator to uncover a personal secret, adopts a 'racist' dog, and falls off his pedestal as a lesbian advocate, temporarily. When Susie plans a surprise party for Jeff, Larry suspects she has ulterior motives, and enlists the help of his new friend Wally to ensure things dont go awry. He promises no more hugging and insists that he's trying to get a date so he's not so starved for affection.

The whole affair triggers Victor's war memories and the two men hightail it to the parking lot. . The mother is stunned at how much Larry reminds her of her husband (who was murdered on their honeymoon in a road rage incident) and has a traumatic flashback when she's driving with Larry that causes her to injure Richard Lewis. Larry promises to retrieve the bunch he gave to the Dean. Larry doesn't understand the exhortation "Don't be shy." McEnroe knows what he means.
